Women's Workouts the Push Up: Plank and Dips

Core strength: so often pieces of a movement are not considered. To do a push up you have to have the core strength to maintain a "plank" through out the range of motion (see exercise descriptions for Plank). If you cannot easily hold a plank position for a minute or more then you need to train this element to have success with push ups.

Dips: Dips sometimes fall into the same category as pull ups for women. It's something they "can't" do. Not so, you need to train the movement using the same techniques as pull ups. Dips target the chest, arms, shoulders, as do push ups, and they require you to move your body.  Dips will help condition the strength in the system to execute push ups. Try these on the weight assisted pull up and dip machine or try doing bench dips.
